Looks like Fort Worth families will have to contend with more crowds at the popular Fort Worth Zoo, for a good reason.

The Fort Worth Zoo was named one of the top zoos and aquariums in the country in this year’s FamilyFun magazine Travel Awards.

FamilyFun surveyed families traveling with kids ages 3 to 12. More than 2,000 respondents in four regions – West, Midwest, South, and Northeast – were asked to rate more than 400 vacation spots in six categories.

Crowds have flocked to see the baby boom at the Fort Worth Zoo, which can get from 10,000 to 12,000 people during spring break.

The babies include a pair of elephant babies named Bowie and Belle; two baby mountain lions named Sheldon and Leonard; a jaguar cub named Sasha and a greater one-horned rhino named Asha.

More than 7,000 creatures live at the zoo, in all.

Last week, the zoo unveiled a new exhibit called GIGANTABUGS! More than a dozen larger-than-life replicas of insects including this giant Mexican red legged tarantula are scattered throughout the grounds.
