General manager Jon Daniels confirmed that right-hander Colby Lewis will join the Rangers’ rotation this weekend, though the club is waiting to decide if he will pitch Saturday or Sunday.

Lewis threw a bullpen session Wednesday in Round Rock and will meet the team in Arlington to open a 10-game homestand. If he continues to feel healthy, the plan is for him to start Saturday, but Sunday is also on the table.

“The likely scenario is that he will pitch for us this weekend,” Daniels said. “We don’t have to make a decision until the weekend. There’s no need to rush it if something happens.”

The Rangers can slide Lewis onto the 40-man roster by transferring Jurickson Profar to the 60-day disabled list, but they will need to clear a spot on the 25-man roster if Adrian Beltre avoids the DL.

Outfielders Michael Choice and Jim Adduci can be optioned to the minors.
