A 23-year-old man was given a misdemeanor citation last week after two women reported Friday that they were fondled at the University of Texas at Arlington, university officials said.

The man’s name has not been released because the investigation is continuing, Kristin Sullivan, a UTA spokeswoman, said Tuesday.

“Police believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information about other, related incidents to contact UT Arlington police,” a news release said.

Officers were alerted Friday to an incident at the library, 702 Planetarium Place, the news release said. The call was initially classified as a “possible sexual assault,” Sullivan said.

A student told police that she was on the fourth floor when a man sat next to her and started a conversation. Soon, the man placed his hand inside her shirt and touched her chest, according to the news release.

The woman tried to leave, but the man followed her, grabbed her and pushed her against a stack of books. The student got away and called police.

As UTA police searched for the man, another woman reported a similar incident. The man was found and detained after the first woman identified him, police said.

Police believe a third woman may have been fondled, but officers had not talked to her, Sullivan said Tuesday.

The man “is accused of at least two ‘forcible fondling’ incidents in the UTA library,” Sullivan said. “Under Texas law, these incidents are Class C misdemeanors — offensive or provocative contact.”

The man is about 5 foot 9 with a medium build, brown eyes, short black hair, a thin mustache and a beard. He has dark skin and is possibly of Indian heritage. He wore a green shirt and bluejeans and was carrying a dark gray backpack, police said.
