The Fort Worth Stockyards will accommodate a rush of rodeo activities this weekend.

On Friday night, the weekly rodeo is scheduled at Cowtown Coliseum beginning at 8 p.m. Unlike the weekly Mesquite Rodeo that runs in the summer months, the Stockyards Championship Rodeo performs year-round.

The Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cowtown Coliseum. The ceremony includes a lunch break at noon and it will run until about 3 p.m.

The Class of 2014 includes Johnny Emmons of Weatherford, a five-time National Finals Rodeo tie-down roping qualifier; the late Don McLaughlin of Fort Worth, who won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association two world tie-down roping titles in the 1950s; Matt Tyler of Brock, a 20-time NFR team roping qualifier; and Whit, the legendary horse who helped Roy Cooper of Decatur snare multiple world tie-down roping titles in the 1980s.

At 8 p.m. Saturday, pro bull riding fans can watch the 22nd Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge at Cowtown Coliseum.

The Hedeman event is a stop on the Championship Bull Riding tour. In the CBR’s 2014 title race, Aaron Pass of Dallas is ranked No. 1 with 1,080 points and Sage Steele Kimzey is ranked No. 2 with 899. Tickets for the Hedeman event are $35.

Honoring the legends

Byron Walker of Ennis, the 1981 PRCA world steer wrestling champion, will be inducted into the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Hall of Fame.

Walker, a 16-time NFR qualifier, is part of a rare two-world championship household. He won his steer wrestling title in 1981 and his wife Mary was the 2012 world barrel racing champion.

World champions Pete Grubb, Wayne Herman, Glen O’Neil, along with two-time world champion bullfighter Miles Hare and Spring Fling, one of just two horses to be honored as both a bareback and saddle bronc horse of the year, also will be inducted on Aug 9.

They will be enshrined along with the rodeo committees from the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo, Greeley (Colo.) Stampede, Rowell Ranch Rodeo in Hayward, Calif., and the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho.

PBR update

J.W. Harris, a four-time PRCA champion from Mullin, finished second at last weekend’s Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series tour stop in Nampa, Idaho, and earned $18,151.

Brazilian Eduardo Aparecido won the Nampa title ($39,906). Stormy Wing of Dalhart tied for 11th ($1,448).

In the world standings, 2008 world champion Guilherme Marchi is ranked No. 1 with 5,574.180 points. Fabiano Vieira is No. 2 with 5,321.12.

NCHA update

At the National Cutting Horse Association Super Stakes at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum, the 4-year-old open division, which is the middle jewel of the sport’s Triple Crown Series, begins Tuesday with first-round competition. The final round is April 19.
