Southlake Carroll has hired Ryan Mitchell as volleyball coach, Mitchell confirmed Thursday evening.

Mitchell, who led Lucas Lovejoy to five straight Class 3A and 4A UIL state titles from 2008 to 2012, replaces Arthur Stanfield who left after five seasons. The Dragons posted a 48-2 record in 2013 and advanced to the 5A state tournament.

“I’m ecstatic about it,” he said. “This is a really a unique opportunity and I was looking for a new challenge. It’s not like I was leaving a bad situation at Lovejoy or anything, it’s been a dream job.

“I’m very proud of what we accomplished there and the program is set up for success for the long term. But Southlake is a beacon of success for what every high school athletic program should strive to be and I’m stepping into a situation with kids similar to what I had at Lovejoy.”

Mitchell had a 315-41 record at Lovejoy and was also one time head coach at Irving Nimitz.
