Yu Darvish is on the right track to returning, pitching coach Mike Maddux said.

Darvish, who has been sidelined with neck stiffness since March 21, threw an 86-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday afternoon with no issues. He threw each of his fastballs, curveball, slider and changeup during a session that simulated about four innings of work by having Darvish get up and down.

“All pitches were good, he looked very good, feels healthy,” Maddux said. “We’ll know more tomorrow and see how he recovers from that. So the next step would be … wait till tomorrow.”

Darvish, the reigning Cy Young runner-up, had been expected to be the team’s Opening Day starter and it remains unknown if the team will require him to make a medical rehabilitation start before returning to the big leagues.

Tuesday marked the second time Darvish has thrown on a mound since being scratched from a minor-league start on March 21. Darvish last faced batters on March 16 vs. the Chicago White Sox.
