In a Shreveport jail last week, Robert Atlas confessed to Bedford detectives that he killed his pregnant girlfriend after they argued at a Fort Worth bar, according to search warrant affidavits obtained Tuesday by the Star-Telegram.

After finding the body of Tracy Anderson, 27, on March 23 in a blood-splattered apartment and learning that she shared it with Atlas, detectives began looking for the 26-year-old man.

Detectives checked his financial records and learned that Atlas spent $49 on gas and $1.29 on iced tea at 3:07 a.m. March 22 at a Chevron station in Irving, the affidavits say. When they got security video from the store, they saw that Atlas’ right hand was bloody and that a clerk provided a bandage.

At 9 a.m. that day, Atlas’ bank card was used to withdraw $200 at the Flying J Truck Stop in Texarkana, Ark.

And on March 24, detectives learned, Atlas was using a new prepaid Verizon cellphone, which they tracked to Shreveport, according to the affidavits.

He was arrested the next day. U.S. marshals found Atlas asleep in his 2011 Dodge Charger in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart near Shreveport. From the car, investigators took more than 25 pieces of evidence, including bloodstained clothing.

According to earlier reports and confirmed in the affidavit, on the night of March 21, Atlas and a friend were at a Fort Worth bar when Anderson showed up. Anderson and Atlas argued, and she left, angry, the friend told police.

Atlas and Anderson had moved into an apartment in the 2500 block of Central Park Boulevard in early March. Friends of Atlas told police that Anderson had locked him out of the apartment before and he had vowed to kick open the door if she did it again.

Summoned March 23 by Anderson’s mother, who had not been able to contact her daughter, officers found Anderson dead in a bedroom. The front door and a bathroom door were damaged. Blood was smeared throughout the apartment and was on the front doorknob and outside the apartment. Officers found a bloody knife.

Anderson and her unborn child died of multiple stab wounds, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Atlas remained in the Bedford Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $1 million. He faces a capital murder charge, police said.
