Darrell Juarez, 29, of Grand Prairie, was killed Saturday night when the sport utility vehicle he was driving overturned on Interstate 30 and burned, police said.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, said Grand Prairie police Sgt. Eric Hansen.

Juarez was trapped in the burning wreckage of a 2006 Ford Escape on eastbound Interstate 30 near Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie, police said.

The victim died about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, police said. Witnesses said that the SUV was driven erratically before it went onto the highway’s shoulder between Belt Line and MacArthur Boulevard. The SUV clipped the back of a disabled tractor-trailer, then overturned and caught fire, police said.

The truck driver was in the truck’s cab waiting for repair assistance when the SUV collided with it and was not injured, police said.

The collision was the second traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
