A Forest Hill man died Sunday morning from a gunshot wound he received in an ambush at a Fort Worth intersection, police said.

A woman was wounded in the same incident.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Hubert McClendon, 24, who died at 6:47 a.m. Sunday at John Peter Smith Hospital.

Patrol officers were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at Elgin and Effie streets.

Someone had called 911 to report a shooting at the intersection.

When they arrived, officers found a passenger of a vehicle in the 1900 block of Effie Street with a bullet wound to his head and a woman who also was shot, police said. The passenger was later identified as McClendon, authorities said.

The woman was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

The two were shot as they drove down Effie Street, police said Sunday, adding that the shooting may have stemmed from a fight at the nearby J.A. Cavile Place Apartments, 1401 Etta St.

The suspect or suspects apparently left the fight and ambushed the victims down the street from the complex, police said.

No arrests had been made by Sunday.
