The UT Arlington baseball team extended its winning streak to a season-high three games and won its first Sun Belt Conference road games with a doubleheader sweep of South Alabama.

Left fielder Ryan Bottger drove in five runs in UTA’s 8-3 win in the first game, including a two-run home run in the first and a three-run double in the sixth. His five RBI were a season-high for UTA (11-16, 3-5 Sun Belt) this season.

The eight runs were more than enough support for Mavericks starter Brad Vachon. The right hander gave up three runs — one earned — on 10 hits and struck out five in 72/3 innings to move his record to 2-5 on the season.

The Mavericks needed four runs in the late innings to pull away from South Alabama (13-12, 3-4) in the second game and win 6-2.

South Alabama scored two runs off Mavs starter Zach Thompson in the first four innings, but reliever Chase Weaver held the Jaguars scoreless over the last 51/3 innings to move his record to 3-1.
