Jim Witt’s March 19 column on Dan Jenkins reminds me several of us Jenkins fans once argued which was the best Jenkins line.

My divorced buddies settled on this: “ ‘Yeah, she’s a dandy,’ Slick said. ‘But a man always needs to remember one thing about a pretty girl. Somewhere, somebody’s tired of her.’ ” ( Baja Oklahoma)

My favorite was nominated by an English professor: “She kept it hidden in a fake volume of Proust on the bookshelf in our library-den. The idea came from Shake Tiller, who’d said nobody in his right mind would pick up a copy of Proust, not even a literary burglar.” ( Rude Behavior)

Recently, I handed a Jenkins non-fiction book on golf to a young avid golfer. He could not put the book down.
