About the Predators: Nashville will play the second of a back-to-back set after defeating the Buffalo Sabres 6-1 Thursday to snap a six-game home losing streak. Captain Shea Weber scored twice to move into a tie for the NHL lead among defensemen with 20 goals. Rookie centers Colton Sissons and Calle Jarnkrok each scored his first NHL goal as the Predators charged to a 4-0 lead after the first period. ... The Predators sit 11th in the Western Conference, nine points out of the last playoff spot.

About the Stars: Dallas is five points out of the final wild-card spot after Phoenix (84 points) defeated New Jersey 3-2 Thursday. ... After a two-day break, the Stars will be back at it again by playing 10 games over the final 17 games of the season. ... Forward Ray Whitney (flu) did not practice Thursday and is questionable. ... Forward Erik Cole remains out with an upper body injury and likely will miss the next two games, coach Lindy Ruff said.  — From online reports
