About the Clippers: In their first season under coach Doc Rivers, the Clippers have the third-best record in the West and fourth-best in the NBA. They are 29-13 against the West and 19-17 on the road after Wednesday’s 98-96 loss at New Orleans. ... Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan form the three-headed monster that makes the Clippers click. Griffin has 40 double-doubles this season, has scored at least 20 points in the past 30 games, and was averaging 24.4 points and 9.7 rebounds entering Wednesday’s play. Paul averages 18.8 points and leads the league in assists with 10.9 per contest. Jordan is averaging 10.2 points, is first in the NBA in field-goal accuracy (66.6 percent), first in rebounding (13.7) and third in blocks (2.39). ... The Clippers like to get out in transition and are known for their lob dunks. Speed is their main asset and has helped them lead the league in scoring with 107.5 points a game.

About the Mavs: Dallas is again tied with Phoenix for the Western Conference’s eighth playoff seed after the Suns’ 99-93 victory Wednesday over the Washington Wizards. ... Dallas is 3-2 on this record eight-game homestand. After Thursday they host Sacramento on Saturday and Golden State on Tuesday. ... The Mavs gained a truckload of confidence with Tuesday’s 128-119 overtime victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 32 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals, and Jose Calderon contributed 22 points and eight assists, and did not commit any turnovers against the Thunder’s swarming defense. ... The Mavs are 0-2 against the Clippers this season, including a 129-127 loss on Jan. 15 in Los Angeles after being outscored 21-6 down the stretch. ...
