Aledo football coach and Duncanville basketball player garner awards

Aledo football coach Tim Buchanan was named the Class 4A area coach of the year Tuesday by the National Football Foundation’s Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter.

The Bearcats claimed their fifth state title under Buchanan in 2013, winning the Class 4A Division II championship. Aledo became the first team ever to surpass 1,000 points in a season.

Also Tuesday, Duncanville guard Ariel Atkins was named the girls 2014 Morgan Wootten Player of the Year Award winner.

Atkins, Euless Trinity’s Myles Turner and Dallas Prime Prep’s Emmanuel Mudiay will participate April 2 in McDonald's All American Games.
