Fort Worth Paschal’s bats were hot from the moment they stepped off the bus at The Ballpark at Arlington High on Friday.

Paschal scored at least a run in five of the seven innings to beat District 3-5A rival Arlington 11-7 on 10 hits.

Paschal (7-13, 3-2 District 3-5A) scored three runs in the top of the first when catcher Austin Cornish doubled with the bases loaded. Cornish went 2-for-4 for the game.

Paschal’s biggest inning came in the second when the Panthers pushed across five runs. They added single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings.

“This is the best offensive performance we’ve had, and we needed it because that’s one of the best one-through-nine lineups in Arlington High,” Paschal coach Darrell Preston said.

Hitting had been a focus in practice leading up to Friday’s game with Paschal coming off back-to-back 1-0 losses to Arlington Martin and Weatherford, Preston said.

Paschal starter Hunter Spielman allowed one run on four hits in five innings against Arlington (13-6-1, 3-2). The lefty, who has committed to UT Arlington, relied onbackdoor sliders and finished with six strikeouts.

Beau Campbell went two innings for the Panthers, allowing three runs on four hits.

The Colts rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.

“They throw a lot of off-speed and you’ve just got to make adjustments to it,” Cornish said. “Once we make adjustments, it’s hard to pitch to us. If we show we can hit two pitches, it’s hard for pitchers to pitch to us.”
