FORT WORTH — A Fort Worth man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for the slaying of a woman who was shot in the back and abandoned on the side of a roadway.Alva Jerome Peace Jr., 28, was already in the Tarrant County jail on unrelated charges when he was accused of killing Jacqueline Bedford, a 22-year-old whose body was discovered on Oct. 9, 2011, in the 5300 block of Eastland Avenue near Lake Worth.Peace was in jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm when he was charged with the murder. Both of those charges were dismissed, according to records in the Tarrant County district clerk’s office.Peace must serve half his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole, a spokeswoman with the Tarrant County district attorney’s office said. He pleaded guilty to the murder charge Thursday in state District Judge Mike Thomas’ court.“We believed it was a fair plea agreement based upon the evidence that likely would come out at trial,” Mark Thielman, Tarrant County prosecutor, said in an emailed statement.
