Tarleton State men’s basketball coach Lonn Reisman is optimistic about next season after going 28-3 when its season ended Sunday in a loss to Midwestern State in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.

“We lost just five players from this team and have 11 lettermen coming back,” Reisman said. “We have starters returning, and I feel like our recruiting is going extremely well. In my mind we have a chance to be just as good as we were this year. We are going to be right back in the hunt.”

Tarleton nearly swept the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District awards with Eastern Hills product Chuck Guy earning the regional player of the year award and Reisman being named co-coach of the year.

“We had a great year,” Reisman said. “We had the best season in school history. We won 18 games to begin the season, we had so many positives and yet you still feel the pain. We felt like we could have played for a national championship. But I told the seniors that they had to keep their heads up for what they accomplished.”

The Texans claimed a share of the regular season LSC championship with a 12-2 conference record. The run continued into the conference tournament in Allen where the Texans won the championship, earning a 71-65 victory over Midwestern State in the finale.
