Kansas State

Record: 20-12  Region, seed: Midwest, 9

Leading scorer: Marcus Foster, 15.6 avg.

Leading rebounder: Thomas Gipson, 6.5 avg.

Notable: The Wildcats have a tall task with Kentucky as an opener, but if K-State can pull it off it’ll get a chance to knock off its No. 1-seeded neighbor Wichita State in Round 2.

Oklahoma State

Record: 21-12  Region, seed: West, 9

First opponent: Gonzaga, 3:40 p.m. Friday, San Diego

Leading scorer: Marcus Smart, 17.8 avg.

Leading rebounder: Kamari Murphy, 6.2 avg.

Notable: The Cowboys quickly became a trendy pick to be a “dangerous” team Sunday evening. Most of that has to do with the team’s underwhelming ninth seed after a seven-game losing streak in Big 12 play.
