Henry Melton returned home without a contract with the Seahawks, giving the Cowboys an opening to sign him. The Grapevine product has a visit scheduled at Valley Ranch on Monday, according to a source.

Quarterback Brandon Weeden, who was released by the Browns, will visit with the Cowboys on Monday, too, and defensive end Jared Allen also is slated to come to town, according to sources.

Melton and Allen are the biggest names the Cowboys have hosted. Melton visited the Vikings late last week, and the Raiders, Rams and Bears also have interest, along with the Seahawks.

Melton wants a short-term deal to prove his health after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his left knee in October.

Allen, who turns 32 next month, met with the Seahawks on Sunday. The Broncos were interested in Allen and close to signing him until the Cowboys released DeMarcus Ware last week. He reportedly would retire rather than accept less money than he believes he’s worth.

Allen has 128.5 career sacks, ranking him 12th in NFL history. He has seven consecutive double-digit sack seasons, including 11.5 last season in Minnesota. He spent four seasons with the Chiefs and six with the Vikings.

Besides Ware, the Cowboys also must replace defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, who signed with the Redskins last week. Melton played the three-technique for current Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli when Marinelli was defensive coordinator of the Bears. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2012 playing for Marinelli.

Melton, 27, played only three games last season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but in four seasons, he has 15.5 sacks.

The Cowboys also could lose defensive end Anthony Spencer, who visited the Giants on Sunday. Spencer already has visited the Redskins. The Cowboys have some interest in retaining Spencer, who had microfracture knee surgery after playing only 34 snaps last season.

The Cowboys lost a chance at defensive end Julius Peppers after he agreed on terms with the Packers on Saturday.

With only around $7 million in salary-cap space, the Cowboys continue to seek deals that make monetary sense.
