A motorist remained in custody Monday, accused of hitting a pedestrian Saturday night and driving away.

Authorities did not release the identity of the victim, a 52-year-old woman found lying on a road Saturday night who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police identified the motorist as Pedro Garcia, 33. He was in the Mansfield Jail on Monday with bail set at $60,000. Immigration officials also have placed a hold on Garcia.

The woman was hit about 10 p.m. Saturday in south Fort Worth, in the 4300 block of Berke Road just east of Interstate 35W, officials said.

Detectives determined that she was walking on the street and was hit by a silver Chrysler 300. The motorist failed to stop to render aid and drove away, police said.

A witness provided police with the license plate number of the car involved and authorities tracked the vehicle from that information, police said Monday. The registered owner was not driving the car at the time, police said.

Garcia faces a charge of being involved in an accident involving serious bodily injury or death, a third-degree felony, police said.
