TCU rifle team finishes in sixth

TCU finished sixth with 4,642 points at the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Murray, Ky.

Sally Li and Catherine Green led the Horned Frogs in air rifle with scores of 585.

TCU’s air rifle team scored 2,333 points, finishing seventh.

West Virginia successfully defended its title, finishing with 4,705 points.

• Track & field: TCU finished 11th in the men’s 4x400 relay with a time of 3:12.41 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque.

On the relay team were Ronnie Baker, Harvey McSwain, Lavon Collins and Sam Watts.

• Men’s tennis: Arnau Dachs beat Victor Cornea 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), helping TCU (8-5) edge visiting Middle Tennessee State 4-3 in a dual match.

Also winning singles matches were Facundo Lugones and Trey Daniel. Doubles winners were Nick Chappell-Will Stein, Dachs-Daniel, and Hudson Blake-Lugones

• Men’s golf: TCU shot a 2-under 286 and is in 11th place with a 585 at the OMNI Tucson National Invitational Tournament.

Giulio Castagnara shot a career-low 69 and climbed 39 spots to a tie for 36th with teammate Julien Brun, who carded a 2-over 74. Both are at 146.

Sarosh Adi shot 2-under 70, his third sub-par round of the spring season.

Adi leads the Frogs at 145. He is in a tie for 30th.

UTA roundup

• Softball: Shannon Carrico pitched a three-hitter, helping UT Arlington to a 2-1 victory over San Diego State and a split of two games at the San Diego Class II.

Britnea Barilli led off with a home run for the Mavericks (14-14).

Rebecca Stokes tripled in the second inning and scored on a wild pitch.

The Mavericks lost to Long Beach State 8-0 in the other game.

UTA finishes the tournament against Harvard at noon today.

•  Men’s golf: UTA shot a 312 on Saturday and finished 16th with a 928 at the 2014 Border Olympics in Laredo.

Brad Mason shot a 5-over 77 and finished tied for 32nd with a 7-over 233.

Houston won the team title with an 858 and the Cougars’ took the individual title with a 209.

Timberview alum 7th

Aldrich Bailey Jr., a sophomore at Texas A&M, finished seventh in the men’s 200 final at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday in Albuquerque.

Bailey attended Mansfield Timberview.
