The only thing that took Joe Heineman off his game Friday night was a car alarm.

The Southlake Carroll pitcher was in mid windup in the fifth inning against Keller Timber Creek when a car parked behind the left-field wall began honking. Heineman paused, re-gathered himself, then threw three balls for a walk and gave up a single as the horn blared on.

That was Timber Creek’s best chance to score. Heineman threw blanks for six innings, striking out six and giving up three hits on the way to a 10-0 victory for the visiting Dragons (16-1, 2-0 District 4-5A).

The problems started early for Timber Creek (15-2, 1-1) when starting pitcher Tanner Sieve gave up three runs in the first inning. Erik Cole led off with a single, and Heinemen followed with a double. After Anthony Martin flew out to center, Sieve had Drew Brown struck out. But the pitch was dropped by catcher Dalton Davies, who then tried to pick off Cole at third instead of tossing it to first for the out.

The throw was off, getting tangled between Cole and third baseman Ty Davidson before dribbling down the line. Cole scored, then Barry Casey drove in Heineman on a fielder’s choice before Garrett Hale singled to drive in Brown to put Carroll up 3-0, two outs into the game.

Cole went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs for the Dragons. Brian Klein led Timber Creek with two hits. Davidson added a triple in the sixth before Heineman retired the next two batters.

Left-hander Michael Basler threw the seventh inning for Carroll, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.
