Rice pitcher Chase McDowell threw six scoreless innings and helped himself by going 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs as the 15th-ranked Owls won their 10th consecutive matchup against TCU with a 5-0 shutout Tuesday at Reckling Park.

The Owls batted around while scoring four runs in the fifth inning, chasing Horned Frogs starter Jordan Kipper (1-2), who was tagged with all five runs, four earned, on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

McDowell (2-1) had an RBI each in the fourth and fifth innings. He beat out what would have been an inning-ending double play in the fourth to drive in Rice’s first run. On the mound, he escaped jams in the first and third innings and scattered five hits while striking out just one.

TCU was shut out for the third time this season and for the second time by Rice. The Owls beat the Frogs 1-0 on March 1.

Rice’s Ryan McCarthy threw three innings of one-hit relief, struck out three and walked two to earn his first save.

Dylan Fitzgerald led the TCU offense with a 2-for-4 night.
