About the Mavericks: This is the second game of a three-game road trip for Dallas. The Mavs come home after the Utah game, then play at Oklahoma City on Sunday before starting an eight-game homestand on Monday against the Boston Celtics. ... The Mavs are 2-0 against the Jazz this season with guard Monta Ellis and forward Dirk Nowitzki starring in both wins, which came in Dallas. Ellis scored 26 points, and Nowitzki added 18 points and seven rebounds in a 103-93 Mavs victory on Nov. 22. When the Mavs defeated the Jazz 103-81 on Feb. 7, Ellis poured in 22 points and Nowitzki added 20 on just 5-of-9 shooting. ... Center Samuel Dalembert had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the November victory over the Jazz.

About the Jazz: The locals are looking at the standings upside down in hopes that Utah can secure one of the top picks in the June NBA Draft. ... The Jazz is tied with the Lakers for the fifth-worst record in the NBA and last in the West. ... Utah is 14-17 at home and 11-46 against the West. ... The Jazz opened the season by losing 14 of its first 15 games, including the first eight. Utah has also dropped six of its last seven games. The win came Saturday when Gordon Hayward scored 22 points during a 104-92 victory in Philadelphia. ... Hayward leads the Jazz with 16.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds. Alec Burks is averaging 13.8 points, Derrick Favors 12.7 points and 8.7 rebound and Enes Kanter 12.1 points and 6.5 rebounds.
