Micaela Birt had a pair of goals as Keller Timber Creek overwhelmed Haltom in the second half for a 4-0 win Monday night at Timber Creek.

The victory kept the Falcons in control of their own destiny for second place in District 4-5A. Southlake Carroll and Keller are ahead of Timber Creek in the standings with two games remaining.

The Falcons controlled throughout the match, but the Buffaloes’ defense was able to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard in the first half, in large part to the play of goalkeeper Marce Seeders.

Sixteen minutes in, Birt unleashed a long-range effort that glanced off the crossbar. Three minutes later, Catherine Sebazco worked herself free for a close-range effort that was saved by Seeders. Just two minutes later, Sebazco and Hirt teamed to test Seeders again, but the keeper saved from inside the area.

Later in the first half, Sebazco, Birt and Hayley Ward strung together several combination passes before Seeders parried Birt’s shot off the right post.

“We put some quality shots on her and she saved them all,” Timber Creek coach Mike King said.

Finally, 12 minutes into the second half, Ward broke the deadlock with a run down the right side. Her tight-angle shot found the underside of the crossbar to sneak in for a 1-0 Falcons lead.

Birt doubled the lead in the 68th minute. Ward dropped a pass that Birt blasted low into the left corner of the net and the flood gates opened for the Falcons’ offense.

Two minutes later, the trio of Sebazco, Birt and Ward again worked well to free Sebazco for an easy finish to make in 3-0.
