The TCU baseball team enters its game Tuesday night at No. 15 Rice hoping to build momentum off a 6-2 victory Sunday over Michigan State that avoided a sweep and a halted a skid of five losses in the past seven games.

To keep rolling, the Horned Frogs will have to beat a team they haven’t defeated in nine consecutive tries dating to the 2005 season.

TCU faces off against Rice (10-6), which edged the Frogs 1-0 on March 1 in the Houston College Classic, for the second time in 10 days.

Jordan Kipper will start for the Horned Frogs (9-6) against fellow right-hander Chase McDowell. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. at Reckling Park.

Rice has won three of its past four, including two victories over the weekend in a Conference USA opening series against visiting Old Dominion.

Kipper (1-1) has a 5.40 ERA in three starts. McDowell (1-1) has a 1.72 ERA in four appearances covering 15 2/3 innings, including two starts.

Former Arlington High standout Skyler Ewing is Rice’s top hitter, leading the Owls with a .323 batting average, three home runs and 19 RBIs.

Boomer White is hitting .367 for TCU.

The Frogs dropped out of the Baseball America Top 25 Monday after being ranked No. 22 last week.
