When the Summit girls soccer team started the second round of the district schedule, a few issues seem to be benefitting the team, resulting in just one loss since that time.Summit head coach Kirby Davis said the biggest reason why the Lady Jaguars have lost just once since the first Legacy game has to do with the weather. Or lack of extreme weather.“We finally got a chance to practice again,” Davis said, noting the weather was keeping his young team off the field and out of sync. With so many freshmen a part of the team this season, it may have taken the additional practice and game time experience to gel. “We’ve done better,” Davis said. “It’s still winning ugly, but I’ll take it.”Ugly is working just fine for Summit as the Lady Jags enter the week in the final playoff spot with three games remaining. Summit will play Legacy and league-leading Burleson Centennial before the playoffs arrive. Summit finished in second place last season but graduated a lot of talent. “That means we just have to work harder,” Davis said. It’s possible that Summit could take third place from Legacy, but that would require a Summit win over the Broncos and a loss by Legacy to Burleson.Legacy is 5-3-4 in district play and has 14 points to Summit’s 12.The big win for Summit was last week, when it beat Crowley to keep them at bay behind the Lady Jaguars and earn the tiebreaker.Lake Ridge is sitting solidly in second place with a 9-3 record and 18 standing points. Lake Ridge head coach Kim Wallace was to play Seguin on Monday morning before taking time off for spring break. They’ll finish with Crowley on March 18.“We’re definitely in the playoffs,” Wallace said. “We’re really looking forward to it and I’m so excited for the girls who have been working hard the entire season.”In District 7-5A, Mansfield continues to set the tone and leads the field. The Lady Tigers still have games remaining with Grand Prairie, which was to be played on Monday, and then will finish with Cedar Hill on March 18 and at DeSoto. Many eyes will be on Timberview as they battle for their position in the playoffs.Timberview lost to South Grand Prairie last week, 3-1.The Lady Wolves were hosting Cedar Hill on Tuesday before finishing up with Midlothian and then hosting Duncanville for Senior Night.
