Stephenville quarterback Jarrett Stidham announced Friday night on Twitter that he had committed to Texas Tech.

Stidham, who will be a senior next season, holds nearly 20 offers, including Alabama, Baylor, Ohio State, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M.

He is a consensus four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback among the 2015 class by Rivals and ESPN.

Recruiting services Scout and 247Sports rank Stidham in the top five at his position.

He won’t be able to officially become a Red Raider until next year’s National Signing Day in February.

Stidham threw for 2,613 yards and 30 touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets last year. He also rushed for 821 yards and 14 touchdowns.

UTA softball sweeps

The Mavericks (13-9) hit a grand slam, a two-run home run and a three-run shot in beating New Mexico State, 5-3 and Northern Colorado, 8-3.

Kacey Everett hit the grand slam in the second inning, helping UTA take a 5-0 lead and eventually hung on to beat New Mexico State in the opener.

Nina Villanueva hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Holly Murphree hit a three-run shot in the seventh in the win over Northern Colorado.

UTA plays Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. today.

Martin apologizes

Suspended South Carolina coach Frank Martin apologized to fans for his harsh words aimed at Gamecocks point guard Duane Notice in the loss to No. 1 Florida this week.

Martin was suspended one game by athletic director Ray Tanner on Thursday. He is not travelling with the team to its regular-season finale at Mississippi State today. Associate head coach Matt Figger will take over the team in Starkville.

Martin will resume his duties before the Gamecocks play in next week’s Southeastern Conference tournament. Martin says he’s talked to his players all year long about maturity and “I think it’s time I work on my maturity as well.”
