TROY, Ala. — UT Arlington was outscored 33-12 from 3-point range and made a whopping 32 turnovers as Troy routed the Mavericks 88-72 Wednesday night at Trojan Arena.UTA (4-24, 3-14 Sun Belt) was only 4 of 17 on 3-point attempts. Troy (12-16, 8-9) committed only 11 turnovers and was 11 of 27 on 3-point shots.“They made us play their game and they like to play fast,” UT Arlington coach Krista Gerlich said, according to utamavs.com. “We didn’t do a good job of slowing it down and taking care of the ball offensively. Turnovers have been our Achilles all year and it wasn’t any different tonight.”Senior forward Briana Walker led UTA in scoring with 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Senior center Desherra Nwanguma also had 11 rebounds, and scored 14 points.Freshman forward Allyson Te’o, from Keller Fossil Ridge, had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Mavericks hung tough early, but Troy had doubled the visitors 29-14 with 8:36 left in the first half. UTA rallied within six before Troy surged again and led 42-31 at halftime. The lead ballooned to 16 a little more than four minutes into the second half.Troy’s largest lead was 24 points.UTA ends its season with a 5 p.m. game Saturday at South Alabama.
