DeSoto fought off a second-half charge by Lubbock Coronado to advance to the Class 5A Region I final with a 55-38 semifinal victory Friday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.DeSoto (30-3) will play Arlington Bowie (28-5), a 42-40 winner over Hebron, at noon today.A good first quarter allowed the Eagles to take a 30-15 lead into the locker room at halftime, but Coronado came out in the second half ready to make a game of it.“I thought we came out well in the first quarter,” DeSoto coach Chris Dyer said. “In the second quarter, I didn’t think we took care of it the way we could have. In the third quarter, we made some plays right off and then we relaxed way too much.”The Mustangs (26-7) began the third quarter with a 9-4 run to pull within 10, but the Eagles stopped the bleeding with eight consecutive points. “Just had to be more aggressive on both ends.” Dyer said. “We got lax, and we were on our heels. We had to remind the kids the game’s not over.” DeSoto guard Takedrick Brown led all scorers with 19 points, 10 of which came in the second half. He was followed by post Terry Mastonm, who scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half.
