SURPRISE, Ariz. — Look both waysJoseph Ortiz has been riding around the Texas Rangers’ clubhouse on a scooter. Not one meant for enjoyment; rather one designed for people recovering from foot surgeries.Ortiz required surgery on his left foot prior to spring training after a motorcyclist clipped him in his native Venezuela. Ortiz was crossing a street with his focus on sending a text message on his phone when the motorcyclist hit him at an estimated 50-55 mph.“I was very lucky because I have actually seen people get run over and die in those types of accidents,” Ortiz said through a translator Tuesday morning.Ortiz and the motorcyclist were both injured during the accident, and Ortiz said witnesses took him to the hospital.Ortiz underwent surgery Jan. 31 and is expected to be out until at least May.Injury report RHP Nick Tepesch (back stiffness): Scratched from Tuesday’s intrasquad game and is day-to-day. INF Jurickson Profar (shoulder inflammation): He is able to swing run and go through infield drills. Will begin a throwing program this week. C Geovany Soto (left foot surgery): Expected to resume baseball activities in about a week. RHP Tanner Scheppers (lower back spasms): Scheduled to throw live batting practice Thursday. OF Alex Rios (sore left big toe): Took batting practice Tuesday and is feeling better. LHP Derek Holland (microfracture surgery on left knee): He is off crutches and walking on a treadmill. He will be evaluated by team physician Keith Meister soon, which will determine when he reports to camp. RHP Daniel Bard (thoracic outlet syndrome): Is in the early stages of a throwing program. RHP Ben Rowen (biceps tendinitis): Will begin a throwing program the first week of March. LHP Joseph Ortiz (surgery on broken foot): He is non-weight bearing until the end of March. LHP Rafael Perez (strained right hamstring): Day-to-day. RHP Miles Mikolas (sore elbow): Day-to-day with localized soreness in his elbow. RHP Shawn Tolleson (sore shoulder): Day-to-day. SS Elvis Andrus (sore back): Day-to-day.
