GRAPEVINE — Jacob Van scored 23 points, and Isaak Rowe had 15 as Mansfield Lake Ridge rolled to a 67-50 Class 4A area-round win Friday over McKinney North at Grapevine High School.Lake Ridge (22-8) gets Mansfield Summit or Texarkana Texas High in the regional quarterfinals on Monday or Tuesday.“We played really well, but we really played great defense tonight,” Van said. “The bench really sparked things tonight. They filled in and hit some big key shots.”Van scored eight points in a second quarter run that allowed Lake Ridge to take charge.Bryson Williams buried two backbreaking 3s to cap a 17-5 run and give the Eagles a 33-19 lead.McKinney North (25-6) managed a rally behind forward Steele Douglas in the second half. He scored the first nine points of the third quarter to cut the Lake Ridge lead to 33-28.But it wasn’t near enough as Rowe mopped things up for Lake Ridge.The 6-foot-5 junior forward hit two 3-pointers, a mid-range jumper and had two layups to register all of his points in the second half.“I think we relied on what’s gotten us to this point, and that’s defense,” Lake Ridge coach Donte Wilson said. “We’ve talked to them about being ready, and that’s what we’re seeing. Tonight, we got some big baskets from guys off the bench that don’t normally get a lot of opportunities.”Douglas led McKinney North with 23 points, with 21 of them coming in the second half.Lake Ridge was 21-of-50 shooting from the field.
