UT Arlington dropped another road game Thursday, falling to 3-10 away from home, and they play on the road again at 7 p.m. Saturdayat Arkansas-Little Rock. The Mavericks are a team composed of offensive weapons, but when they aren’t making baskets, the lack of defense has cost them crucial games during Sun Belt Conference play. That was a primary reason the Mavericks couldn’t keep up with Arkansas State on Thursday. UTA went cold from the floor and couldn’t stop a 3-point barrage that put the game out of reach just nine minutes into the game. The Mavericks have played a stout defensive style throughout coach Scott Cross’ tenure, but this year’s team is the worst he’s seen since his first year at the helm in 2006. Opponents are shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.The 77.9 points allowed per game is last in the conference.
