Government control

Thanks for Steffan Palko’s balanced article, “Government, regulations not what’s holding us back” on Feb. 12, which provides keen insight into the persistent lack of jobs in America today.

Unfortunately, the progressives that control the Democratic party will never understand the amazing power of the individual or the free enterprise concept. Their mindset was revealed by President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” statement and was crafted 80 years ago by early progressive Jane Addams who wrote these chilling words: “we must demand that the individual shall be willing to lose his sense of personal achievement and shall be content to realize his activity only in connection to the activity of the many.”

Fifty years ago Ayn Rand wrote: “We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.”

If you are tempted to laugh this off, recall the President’s recent quip, “That’s the good thing as president; I can do anything I want.”
