Burleson Centennial came out strong, but Fort Worth Trimble Tech’s pressing defense took over in the second half to lift the Bulldogs to a 67-52 victory in a boys Class 4A bi-district game Monday at Mansfield Legacy High School.

Trimble Tech (24-6), ranked No. 16 in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, advances to the area round and will play the winner of Tuesday’s Birdville (17-9) vs. White Settlement Brewer (16-13) matchup at a site and time to be determined.

Centennial led 12-6 following a basket by Logan Dixon with 3:01 left in the first quarter, but Trimble Tech chipped away behind Ravyon Parks, who scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the first half.

Centennial (17-12) trailed 25-24 following a basket by Tanner Nichols with 1:03 left in the half, but things went downhill after that.

Nichols was called for a personal foul on Tech’s next possession and was then assessed two technical fouls for arguing with the referees and was ejected.

Ravyon Parks made four of the six free throws, and Quavon Parks buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 32-24 halftime lead.

“That was one of the things that we talked about before the game … poise under pressure,” said Trimble Tech coach Wendell Ivory, whose team seemed to pick up a spark after the technical. “We had to make sure that we kept our poise, because this is not your average fourth-place team.”

The Bulldogs kept Centennial at bay until 2:15 left in the third quarter when Trimble Tech’s press forced four consecutive steals. The Bulldogs went on a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.
