For the second straight season, the Summit boys basketball team wrapped up district competition with a 9-5 record in 15-4A competition, but that result improved the Jaguars’ standing from third place last season to second place this year.More important, the Jaguars earned a position in the postseason, where coach Jason Mutterer said he is anxious to see what happens now that things appear to be back in sync on his team.“I think we've gotten better as the season went on,” Mutterer said. “We were able to get back Lovell Cabbil, a kid that was our leading scorer last year in mid-January. We've been trying to figure out that rotation with him back, but now we are full strength. “Getting second in our district I think is pretty good, because the talent from top to bottom is one of the toughest in the area.”Summit played Lindale on Tuesday after the press deadline, and Mutterer he believes his team was playing well as the playoffs got underway.“I think they are really where we want them to be,” Mutterer said. “We've struggled sometimes on defense throughout the season, and I think that over the last three or four games they have taken the defensive end of the floor more serious.“The preparation that we've had this year, playing teams like Seguin, Legacy and obviously Lancaster, will prepare us well for what we are going to see in the playoffs.” Mutterer said for his team to have a good run in the post season it will take a couple of things.“I think we are going to have to have mental toughness,” Mutterer said. “This time of year is going to be up and down for the kids, and we have to be mentally tough. Then the big thing is we have to play together. It's always important to play together. We have to share the basketball and play good defense.”• The Lake Ridge boys basketball team is also playoff-bound this season, as the Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a 47-39 victory against Legacy.Julian Harris led the team in scoring with 15 points, while Ryan Woolridge scored 14 points in the game.Jacob Van, Isaak Rowe and Langdon Williams combined for 18 points in the game for the Broncos.Lake Ridge played Tyler John Tyler on Tuesday after the press deadline; see www.dfwvarsity.com for results.
