A 24-year-old man is in the Tarrant County Jail Monday, accused of fatally injuring his girlfriend’s 13-month-old son in January while overseeing the child.

Oscar Martin Armijo was arrested Friday on a murder warrant. He is being held in jail with bail set at $75,000.

Armijo is accused in the death of Angelo Jeovanni “AJ” Ramirez.

Sgt. Kelly Peel, a police spokesman, said investigators believe Armijo injured the boy after becoming agitated by the child’s crying and fussing after his mother left for work. Investigators believe Armijo struck the child in the head with his hand and dropped the boy on the hardwood floor, Peel said.

A.J. died on Jan. 15, one day after being brought to the emergency room of Cook Children’s Medical Center with difficulty breathing and injuries indicating the possibility of abuse, Fort Worth police have said.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office later ruled the boy’s death a homicide caused by blunt force injuries of the head.

Tarrant County court records show Armijo is currently on deferred adjudication probation on a charge of possession of four ounces to five pounds of marijuana.
