Dallas-based Andrews Distributing, which is buying Coors Distributing Co. of Fort Worth, is considering consolidating its operations off Interstate 35W near Meacham Boulevard with another Fort Worth facility at a distribution center it would build, company executives said.In December 2012, Andrews Distributing bought two tracts of land totaling around 33 acres along the south side of Loop 820, east of Railhead Road, that founder Barry Andrews now says would make a good location to bring the two facilities under one roof.Neither existing facility is big enough to accommodate the other, he said. Andrews Distributing leases a building at 1701 Pharr St. and will lease the Coors Distributing building.Mike McGuire, president of Andrews Distributing, said the new facility, which is in the works, will be a “world-class distribution center,” featuring many technologies that make running a beer distributorship fast and efficient. It will be similar to a 305,000-square-foot facility it has in Allen that sits on 44 acres, he said. It will take two to three years to make the project happen, though, McGuire said.Last week, members of the McMillan family, which has owned and operated Coors Distributing in Fort Worth for 48 years, announced that it’s selling the beer distributor to Andrews. The deal is expected to close by April 1.It’s still not known how many Coors Distributing employees Andrews will keep. Coors Distributing has about 210 employees and Andrews Distributing has about 280 in Fort Worth. In 2008, Andrews bought a Miller Brewing distributor in Fort Worth from the Craine family, which had run the business for 28 years in Tarrant County.Andrews said company executives met with Coors Distributing employees last week, who expressed concern about their jobs. “We don’t take that lightly,” he said.Personnel decisions will not be made until after the transaction closes, Andrews said. Andrews Distributing is holding a job fair in Allen on Saturday for Coors Distributing employees who want to apply and interview for jobs. Every employee will be interviewed, Andrews said.Potential jobs are warehouse workers, beer delivery, in-store merchandisers and account managers. “We’ve obviously got a lot going on and a lot of decisions to make,” Andrews said.Like Coors Distributing, Andrews supports community events and so will look at the events that Coors Distributing supported, McGuire said. In Fort Worth, Andrews Distributing has been a sponsor of the Cowtown Marathon and like Coors, for the last five years, has bought a steer at auction at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, he said.Andrews Distributing and Miller Lite have been the only beer sponsors in the history of the Dallas Cowboys, having just completed the 23rd year, McGuire said.Berdan honored by Texas Hospital AssociationBarclay E.
