A day after setting the school record in the mile indoors, TCU senior Tricia Terry won the women’s 3,000 meters Saturday at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

Terry posted a time of 9 minutes, 37.70 seconds.

She set a school record in the women’s mile on Friday with the time of 4:42.52. The previous record of 4:47.49 was set by Rebecca Allison in 1986.

“It was really good for her to do the double [mile Friday, 3,000 Saturday] because she’ll be doing the same thing at the Big 12 Championships,” TCU coach Darryl Anderson said. “It was a dry run of what she’ll be doing in two weeks.”

In the men’s 200 meters, Sam Watts (21.24), Cameron Echols-Luper (21.21) and Malik Summers (21.79) all won their respective sections. The times by Watts and Echols-Luper were seasonal bests.

“We got some things done and the people that were there competed well,” Anderson said. “Now it’s time to get back training and get ready for the Big 12 Championships at the end of the month.”

UTA in softball finals

UT Arlington swept a softball doubleheader against Central Michigan and will face either South Dakota State or Missouri State in the finals of the UTA Maverick Invitational at noon Sunday.

The Mavericks (6-3) beat Central Michigan 9-3 and 2-1.

In the second game, Jolene Schaefer had a walk-off, bloop single to left field that scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Callie Collins pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11.

In the opener, Jasmine Tanksley had three hits and three RBIs for the Mavericks. Mallory Foster added three RBIs, and Rebecca Stokes had two.

“For us to come out and get a ‘W’ in the second game is a big deal,” UTA coach Kristie Fox said. “This is a good practice for us for when we get into conference and into the conference tournament. It will be good experience for our group.”

UNT softball sweeps

North Texas won two games to reach the final of its Lovelace Invitational.

Taylor Schoblocher hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the seventh inning in an 8-6 victory over Northern Iowa.

Jordan Terry had three RBIs in a 9-1 victory over Southern in the second game.

UNT (6-3) will play Iowa State in the title game at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
