The UT Arlington women’s basketball team couldn’t keep its winning streak going Wednesday night, losing 70-65 on the road to Louisiana-Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Ashleigh Simmons scored 16 points to lead the Warhawks’ second-half comeback from an 11-point deficit, and Elexar Tugler and Jasmine Shaw each added 12.

Desherra Nwanguma led the Mavericks (3-19, 2-9 Sun Belt) with 28 points and seven rebounds, and Laila Suleiman and Briana Walker combined for 23 points, but the winning streak ended at two games.

After a seesaw first half, UT Arlington took a 27-24 lead at the break. Nwanguma had nine points and three rebounds, with Suleiman scoring seven points as the Mavericks shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the first half.

Suleiman made a 3-pointer to spark a 13-5 run and take a 40-29 lead in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Warhawks (9-14, 5-6) began their comeback.

Simmons’ basket with 10:18 to play capped an 18-6 run that gave the Warhawks a 47-46 lead, and they made 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

UT Arlington hosts Texas State at 5 p.m. Saturday at College Park Center for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.
