UT Arlington has had a rough few weeks but gets a chance to turn things around Thursday night against Louisiana-Monroe.

The Mavericks tip off at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe. UTA beat the Warhawks 83-79 at home earlier this season.

After winning three consecutive games to move up in the Sun Belt Conference standings, the Mavericks have lost their past three games against the upper echelon of the conference.

The Mavericks, led by Reger Dowell, the leading scorer in the Sun Belt, can score points in bunches. But they have struggled defensively, allowing opponents to score above their season average during the recent slump.

With eight games left, there’s not much chance of winning the conference title. The focus turns to getting on a roll for seeding and momentum going into the conference tournament in March.
