TCU’s walking wounded tour continues.

Guard Kyan Anderson, who has started all 22 games this season, suffered a bruised shoulder against Iowa State on Saturday and did not practice Monday. Anderson, the Horned Frogs’ leading scorer with 15.7 points per game, should be available against Baylor at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

TCU (9-13, 0-10 Big 12) is already shorthanded, playing with just eight scholarship players, and two of them playing with a broken hand.

“It almost becomes comical,” said TCU coach Trent Johnson, who has tried not to make his team’s injury situation a focal point.

But the way the Frogs have been cursed with injuries in his two seasons at TCU has been bizarre.

It’s also been a vicious cycle that has prevented Johnson from practicing his team the way he’d like with more aggressiveness and more physical work under the basket to help toughen the team’s rebounding.

But with Amric Fields and Karviar Shepherd both nursing broken hands, the last thing Johnson wants to see is either player compound the problem by re-injuring themselves in practice.

“It’s unbelievable. We can’t practice hard like we need to,” Johnson said. “It’s a decision I have to make: What is the best way to get them ready to play without re-injuring them?”

Johnson’s fan

Before Marcus Smart’s altercation with a Texas Tech fan late Saturday night, Johnson went out of his way to clear the air about a mostly unnoticed incident during the Frogs’ loss at Iowa State.

Johnson said after the game that while he was talking to official Don Daily, a female ISU fan sitting behind the scorers table said, “Coach, why don’t you be quiet.”

Johnson told her, “I am,” and took his seat on TCU’s bench. Johnson was concerned the woman’s husband misunderstood him and thought he responded by telling her to be quiet, too.

“I would never tell a lady to be quiet,” Johnson said. “In 33 years in that [marriage] fraternity, my wife tells me to shut up all the time.”

Airport delay

After losing to Iowa State, TCU got a little extra unexpected time in Iowa on Sunday.

The team left its hotel at 4:50 a.m. Sunday for the first flight back to DFW Airport. But the freezing Iowa temperatures had caused a maintenance problem, which left the team sitting on the plane for over an hour.

Eventually, everyone was allowed to wait in the lobby. The flight was delayed seven hours and the team got back to campus around 6:30 p.m.
