Fort Worth Arlington Heights didn’t want to wait until Tuesday to guarantee itself a playoff berth, so the Jackets used the presence of their big men to turn back Aledo 52-43 Saturday night.Lavelle Scottie scored 21 points and Tyler Kelly added eight, all in the third quarter, as Arlington Heights (16-10, 8-5) dominated the paint.Aledo (12-16, 6-7) will face Fort Worth South Hills on Tuesday night in a winner-take-all matchup. The victor will earn the fourth and final seed out of District 7-4A and a first-round date with Everman.“It was huge to get the win and wrap up that spot and not have to wait,” Heights coach Jon Wagner said. “Our goal is to still get the second seed, and we have a big game against [Fort Worth Trimble] Tech on Tuesday.”Aledo was 0 for 8 from behind the arc in the first half and trailed 27-19 at intermission. The Bearcats fought back in the second half, however, getting a 3-pointer from Matt Dunn to start the third quarter. Braxton McCoy converted two of the Bearcats’ next three 3-point attempts to bring Aledo within 35-33 with 3:02 left in the quarter. “We actually didn’t want them shooting out there, but they ran some good sets to get open,” Wagner said. “I thought our kids did a pretty good job defending most of them, and our goal on offense was to go inside and get to the basket.”While the Bearcats were knocking down 3s in the third, it was Kelly that kept Heights afloat with all eight of his points to start the quarter.Carl Williams led Aledo with 19 points.Aledo cut Heights’ lead to 42-39 with 5:51 to play, but the Jackets responded with a 5-1 run to open a 47-40 lead. It never got to less than six the rest of the way.Aledo missed its final three attempts from 3-point range.
