As she saddles up a mare named Baby Flo to compete in barrel racing competitions across the country, Fallon Taylor’s main goal is consistency.

Last year, Baby Flo helped the Whitesboro cowgirl earn a spot in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. This weekend, the mare helped her advance to Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo finals, scheduled for tonight at Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.

“We’re working on being consistent in 2014,” Taylor said. “We are working on getting a check every time we run this year and we’re trying to keep our rodeo count down.”

Taylor and Baby Flo have been very consistent at the renowned Fort Worth rodeo. In the first round, they finished eighth with a time of 16.66 seconds. During their second round run on Friday afternoon, the duo turned in a 16.67.

Taylor is ranked third in the title race with two-run time of 33.33, thanks in part to the highly determined, world class competitor that is Baby Flo.

“She has a lot of heart and a lot of guts,” Taylor said. “She never quits. She’s not a horse that you can say, ‘She never fired on that run.’

Taylor is hoping Baby Flo will blast around the barrels tonight when the bigger prize money is at stake. The finals will feature the top 12 in each event after today’s 2 p.m. matinee performance.

A look at the title races:

•  Barrel racing: Former National Finals qualifier Danyelle Bassett is ranked No. 1 overall with a two-run time of 33.21. Lisa Lockhart, another former NFR qualifier who turned in a second round time of 16.62 on Friday night, is ranked No. 2 with a 33.30.

•  Saddle bronc riding: Two-time world champion Cody Wright is ranked first with a two-ride score of 162, two points ahead of No. 2 Chet Johnson, a four-time NFR qualifier. Wright is 36 and he will compete against his 18-year-old son, Rusty, who is ranked fifth with a 157.

•  Tie-down roping: Three-time NFR qualifier Adam Gray is attempting to qualify for the 2014 National Finals after missing the cut last year. He is ranked No. 1 with a two-run time of 17.4. Former college champion Chant DeForest is ranked No. 2 with an 18.2.

•  Team roping: Drew Horner of Plano qualified for his first National Finals last year and he can make a big leap in his attempt to return to the Las Vegas championships by winning the Fort Worth rodeo. He and his partner, Buddy Hawkins II, are ranked No. 1 with a two-run time of 10.5, seven-tenths of a second ahead of No. 2 ranked Jake Orman and Randall Richards.

•  Bareback riding: Steven Peebles, who finished second in the world title race last year, is ranked first with a three-ride score of 241. Kaycee Feild, Bobby Mote and Orin Larsen are tied for second with 237s.

•  Steer wrestling: Seth Brockman, who qualified for the 2011 NFR, is pacing the field with a two-run time of 8.5. He’s four-tenths of a second ahead of No. 2 ranked Jacob Shofner.

•  Bull riding: Joe Frost leads the race with a two-ride tally of 153 and Garrett Vig is second with a 151. Both are attempting to earn a first NFR berth.
