Dallas Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown and his family are hosting a registration drive Feb. 14 at Children’s Medical Center hospitals for bone marrow donations.

Brown’s 15-year-old daughter, Malena, was diagnosed last year with chronic myeloid leukemia. The family is trying to find an unrelated bone marrow donor for Malena and other children suffering from cancer and blood disorders.

Potential donors are encouraged to register at www.childrens.com/bethematch if they cannot register at the hospital. Using the promo code “children’s” allows registrants a chance to have a free test kit sent to their homes.

Controversy remains

The Minnesota Vikings announced Mike Zimmer’s full coaching staff, and it included special teams coach Mike Priefer, who was accused of making homophobic comments by former punter Chris Kluwe.

Keeping Priefer, who is under contract for 2014 and the target of an in-house investigation, has angered Kluwe’s lawyer, Clayton Halunen.

“It’s almost unimaginable that there’s a pending investigation regarding whether or not this guy engaged in homophobic, hate-filled behavior and without even a conclusion in the findings, they’ve retained this person as a coach, as a leader,” Halunen told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Halunen said legal action will be taken against Priefer and the Vikings.

Briefly

• Texans: While interviewing for the team’s head coaching job, interim coach Wade Phillips endorsed drafting Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the top pick. “When I did the interview with the McNairs [in late December], I told them they ought to take Johnny Football,” Phillips told a Houston radio station. “That’s what I told them, and I’m sitting here now,” without a job.

• Seahawks: Defensive lineman Michael Bennett, from Texas A&M, who played on a one-year contract, is a free agent after leading Seattle in sacks (8.5) during its Super Bowl season. “I want to be back [in Seattle] 100 percent,” Bennett said after Wednesday’s championship parade. “... It’s a business, but I definitely want to be back.”
