Detectives are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who was found unresponsive late Saturday at a Fort Worth apartment and later died, police said Sunday.

The boyfriend of the child’s mother, who was babysitting the child, was arrested on an unrelated warrant, police department spokeswoman Sharron Neal said Sunday. The boyfriend’s identity was not released.

The boyfriend called paramedics about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to an apartment on Whittlesey Road and reported that the boy was unconscious, police said. Paramedics found the boy unresponsive. The child’s mother was at work at the time and her boyfriend was babysitting the child, police said.

KDFW-TV reported that the child appeared to have drowned, but the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office had not made a ruling on the cause of death Sunday evening. The television station also reported that investigators believed there were suspicious circumstances surrounding the child’s death, but no details were released.
