FORT WORTH — Special adoption rates are being offered this weekend by the Humane Society of North Texas to find new homes for dogs recently removed from puppy mills in the region.Humane Society officials hope the special rate will help ease crowding at the shelter, which is packed with animals gathered during six operations in January, including one two weeks ago in Parker County. As many as 350 dogs are expected by next week, officials said.It can cost up to $150 to adopt a dog from the Humane Society, said Shelly Meeks, adoption coordinator. This weekend, however, the costs are reduced 25 percent for small breeds and 50 percent for the larger ones. The shelter, 1840 E. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth, is open noon to 5 p.m. daily, including Sunday.More than 30 dogs were removed from unsanitary conditions at the puppy mill in the 500 block of Hide Away Lane in the Garner-Cool area in northwest Parker County. Another 45 dogs that were missing from the property were brought to the shelter earlier this week. Many dogs from the original group are available for adoption, Meeks said.
