UT Arlington senior Briana Walker picked up her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Mavericks, who fell to Western Kentucky 59-46 on Wednesday night at E. A. Diddle Arena.

The Mavericks (1-18, 0-8 Sun Belt) took a 16-14 lead early on a pull-up jumper by Tahlia Pope, but WKU’s Bianca McGee hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get the Hilltoppers (14-5, 6-2) back on top. There were five lead changes and seven ties in the first half as UTA stayed with WKU. The Hilltoppers led 26-25 at halftime.

Walker helped keep the Mavericks in the game in the first half with 10 points and eight rebounds, but she fouled out down the stretch. Walker was joined in doubles figures by Desherra Nwanguma with 11 points.

Chastity Gooch, who finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and three steals, led Western Kentucky, which opened the second half with a 9-2 run and the Mavericks couldn’t keep up. UTA shot 24 percent in the second half.
