The Northwest school district’s popular mobile-device application is now giving parents even more information at their fingertips. The second phase of the app, which launched earlier this month, adds the ability for parents or guardians to check their child’s grades, attendance, and lunch account balance. The first phase of the Northwest mobile app was released in October and includes district and campus news updates, a staff directory, campus locations, a who-to-call department phone list, social media sites and an option to receive push notifications from the district and individual campuses.“We really think this new version will create a ton of demand based on what people have suggested to us to be on the app,” said Adam J. Bennett, the district’s communications associate coordinator. “They spoke and we listened. The opportunity to see your child’s attendance and their grades are such great features.”More than 5,900 users downloaded the first phase of the app. More than 2,600 of those users downloaded the original app in the first five days it was available, said Emily Conklin, the district’s director of communications.Development of the mobile application was funded by shifting dollars traditionally used for printed publications. After the initial development year, the new app is projected to save the district more than $15,000 a year. The district will still provide a smaller number of district publications for those without a computer or smart phone device.“We are excited about this communication tool and look forward to this latest release,” Conklin said. For more information on downloading the app, go to www.nisdtx.org/mobileapp.
