Andrew Dotson scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half as Arlington Martin pulled away after halftime to claim a 59-38 victory at Fort Worth Paschal on Tuesday, and complete a season sweep of the Panthers.
“I just had to get going, get in the flow of things,” Dotson said. “I missed a couple of easy ones in the first half, but in the second half I got into the paint more, so that helped.”
Paschal (15-9, 5-5 District 3-5A) claimed an early lead, but Patrick Burke’s dunk late in the first quarter gave Martin (15-7, 9-1) its first advantage at 8-7.
The Warriors took a 12-9 lead into the second quarter and stretched the lead to as many as six several times before leading 23-19 at halftime.
A Dotson three-point play followed by a Nick Babb 3-point shot opened the second half for Martin and the Warriors were off and running.
“We were just more consistent on the defensive end [in the second half],” Dotson added. “We pulled down more rebounds and they didn’t get as many second-chance opportunities.”
Josh Swearingin’s layup late the third quarter gave the Warriors a 36-21 lead. Xavier Mayes’ 3-pointer for the Panthers ended Martin’s 13-2 run to open the half. Dotson scored the last four of the period for a 40-26 advantage.
A Myles Garrett dunk followed by a Babb layup gave the Warriors a 48-28 lead in the fourth.
Mayes led the Panthers with 12 points, followed by Chuck Amos’ six and five from Da’Mon Smith.
Babb added 15 for Martin while Burke chipped in nine.
